What does Height Comparison show?

Height Comparison places two to six entered heights next to each other on one scale. Every silhouette starts at the same ground line, so the difference between the tops represents the difference in height. Start with the example of 170 and 185 centimeters: the gap is 15 centimeters, regardless of the width of your screen or the names attached to the figures.

Use Height Comparison when a number alone is hard to picture. You can compare friends, a family group, or characters whose heights you have chosen for a story. Give each person a short name to keep the figures identifiable. The names are labels only; the tool does not look up a person's measurements or infer a height from a photograph.

The silhouettes in Height Comparison are deliberately simple. Their overall size follows height, but their shoulders, heads, and legs are not individually measured. Two people of the same height may have very different proportions. Treat the illustration as a ruler with recognizable human shapes, rather than as a portrait, a medical assessment, or a prediction of how two people will actually look together.

How do I use Height Comparison?

Begin your Height Comparison by choosing centimeters or feet and inches, then replace the starting values with your own measurements. The picture and difference update as you type a valid value. Add another person when you need a group, up to six entries. Remove an entry to simplify the lineup; at least two people remain because one height alone cannot form a comparison.

Set up a Height Comparison with two or more people

In Height Comparison, keep a consistent order when testing several scenarios. For example, leave your reference person in the first position and change the second person's height. This makes the effect of each change easier to follow. The numerical table identifies every person and shows how far each stands above the shortest entered height, even when several people share the same value.

If Height Comparison shows an input error, correct it before continuing. A blank field, a negative measurement, or an unsupported value temporarily hides the chart instead of leaving an outdated result visible. Reset restores the original pair and centimeter mode. The unit buttons pause while any measurement is invalid, so a partly typed number cannot silently become a different physical height during conversion.

How does Height Comparison convert feet and inches?

Height Comparison uses 12 inches per foot and 2.54 centimeters per inch. Five feet ten inches therefore means 70 inches, or 177.8 centimeters. Enter 5 in the feet field and 10 in the inches field. Do not enter 5.10 as feet: a decimal point does not separate feet from inches, and this interface deliberately requires a whole number of feet.

Check the units in your Height Comparison

For a metric Height Comparison, enter centimeters directly. A height of 1.70 meters should be entered as 170, not 1.70. A decimal point or comma is accepted for fractional centimeters, such as 170.5 or 170,5. In imperial mode the inches field may contain a fraction expressed as a decimal, but it must remain below twelve; twelve inches belong in the feet field instead.

Switching units in Height Comparison preserves the physical heights, with small rounding only at the displayed conversion precision. The chart scale remains in centimeters and the labels also show total inches, allowing both systems to be checked together. Displayed results use up to two decimal places. Those decimals describe arithmetic precision; they do not mean that a tape measurement was taken to hundredths of a centimeter.

How is the Height Comparison difference calculated?

The overall difference in Height Comparison is the tallest entered height minus the shortest. For 160, 175, and 190 centimeters, the total range is 30 centimeters. The table shows individual differences of 0, 15, and 30 centimeters above the shortest person. Changing the order does not change that range, because the calculation depends on the measurements rather than the positions in the lineup.

Work through a Height Comparison example

For a two-person Height Comparison at 5 feet 4 inches and 6 feet, the measurements become 162.56 and 182.88 centimeters. Their difference is 20.32 centimeters, equal to eight inches. You can reproduce this example by switching to imperial input and entering each pair of values. If the two values are equal, the figures reach the same height and the difference is zero.

The visual scale in Height Comparison adjusts to the tallest entry, leaving space for labels above the figures. Adding a taller person may make everyone look smaller on screen, but all figures shrink by the same scale factor. Compare their tops against the shared grid, not against an earlier screenshot with a different scale. The values printed in the chart remain the reliable reference.

Can I save my Height Comparison chart?

You can download the current Height Comparison as an SVG image using the button below the chart. The file contains the figures, scale, short labels, and measurements shown in the picture. SVG keeps lines sharp when enlarged in compatible software. Open the downloaded file to check the result before adding it to a document, a presentation, or a personal character reference sheet.

Download and read a Height Comparison image

Your Height Comparison image includes the labels you entered, so use initials or fictional names if you intend to share it publicly. Long names are shortened within the image to keep neighboring labels apart; the full entered label remains in the table on the page. The download does not include a photograph or reconstruct anyone's face, clothing, body shape, or identifying physical details.

The Height Comparison calculations run inside your browser and require no account. Measurements are not submitted to a calculation endpoint, and this tool does not save your lineup as a personal history. Reloading the page restores its initial examples. Download the image before leaving if you want to keep it, and retain the original measurement notes separately when the accuracy or date of the input matters.

What are the limits of Height Comparison?

For a useful Height Comparison, compare measurements taken under similar conditions. Shoes, posture, and a sloped floor can change the apparent gap between people. Record whether a value describes barefoot standing height or height including footwear, and avoid mixing those definitions. A clean illustration cannot correct an uncertain input. When using reported heights, keep track of their sources instead of treating an unlabeled online number as verified.

Use Height Comparison with consistent measurements

The Height Comparison form accepts heights from 20 to 300 centimeters. These are practical software limits for this chart, not definitions of healthy, typical, or expected height. The tool does not assess growth, estimate adult height, or calculate a percentile. A fictional character can be represented within the same limits, but that does not make the silhouette anatomically accurate for every possible measurement.

Choose Height Comparison for relative height only. Use the Height Calculator for a separate height-estimation scenario, or the Height and Weight Simulator to explore changes to a single simplified body model. Those tools answer different questions. Combining their outputs does not validate a prediction or add new measurements. For this page, the dependable conclusion is simply how the heights you entered compare on a common scale.

Height Comparison questions

Does Height Comparison predict my adult height?

No. It compares only the measurements you enter. There is no growth model, age adjustment, or prediction based on family measurements. Use current or explicitly hypothetical heights and label them accordingly.

Can I use Height Comparison for fictional characters?

Yes, if the chosen heights are within the input range. Names are labels, and no character database is searched. The neutral silhouettes indicate relative height rather than the proportions of a particular character.

Why does Height Comparison show a zero difference?

The highest and lowest entered values are equal. Check that each person has the intended measurement and that feet and inches were entered in separate fields. Equal heights correctly appear at the same level.
